Laura Deyerberg (DIE-ur-burg) is a keyboardist and organist, as well as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter focusing on organ- and piano-featured pop and rock infused with blues, jazz, rockabilly, gospel, progressive, and experimental music.
Laura's first love was the piano. Inspired by memories of her deceased father, Bob Deyerberg, who was a keyboardist, guitarist, and songwriter based in Northern Virginia/Washington, DC, Laura began playing as a child, eventually becoming a classically-trained pianist under the tutelage of Shoko Gesell. In early adolescence, LD developed an interest in the flute, and honed her classical and jazz flute skills with instruction from Jerry Pavlovsky.
As a teenager, LD discovered her passion for the electric organ, which has since become her primary and favorite instrument. She is frequently heard playing the organ using all four limbs: playing a bass line with her feet, chords with her left hand, and a lead line with her right hand.
Performing as an instrumentalist and vocalist, LD skillfully plays the following instruments: organ, piano, analog synthesizer, accordion, flute, EWI (electronic wind instrument), electric vibraphone and other auxiliary percussion, and drums.
Having experience with so many instruments, LD frequently records music in which she writes and performs each part herself. She has also grown as an audio engineer and producer throughout the creation of her most recent EP Queen of Wands, having engineered, recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered the release entirely by herself.
As well as being a solo musician, LD previously played with swamp-a-billy band Los Swamp Monsters and alternative soul band Without Parallel (formerly 33rd Parallel).
LD draws influence from keyboardists Graham Bond, Vincent Crane (Crazy World of Arthur Brown & Atomic Rooster), Keith Emerson (ELP), Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Ray Manzarek (The Doors), Rick Wakeman (Yes), Alan Price (The Animals), Chick Corea (Return to Forever), and Barbara Dennerlein, as well as musicians/bands Todd Rundgren, The Beatles, Jethro Tull, The Beach Boys, Danny Gatton, Steely Dan, Captain Beefheart, The Residents, and Frank Zappa, among many others.
LD also enjoys listening to gospel shouts/praise breaks, rockabilly, and 1960s British organ blues/R&B.
